‘ The young man from Lewisboro,
who some weeks since stole John H.
Ferris’ horse and gave his captors such
a lively chase, and who was sentenced
to jail, finished his sentence on Satur-
' day last and came to this city where he
met John Dennis, who invited him _to

' awaking next morning found that his

There was a meeting of the City
Council last evening at which bills to
theamount of $3,100 were ordered paid;
petition of S. B. Tristram and Sarah
Wells for extension of thirty days' time
in which to pay their sewer assessment
was granted; petition of Mr. Mc-
Kee for abatement of sewer assessment,
referred to city attorney; a resolution
was passed to place a man at Solman’s
stable, experimentally, for the purpose
of driving the hose carriage to fires; an
amendment was adopted increasing the
salary of the city clerk from $250 to
$300 per year; petition of Mrs. Hough-
ton and others for abatement of sewer
assessment was referred; the petition
of E. A. Woodward to remove the barn
at the corner of Ann and North Main
streets, and to remodel the store at that
point, was referred to the committee
on fire department with power; it was
voted to extend the private sewer north
of A. Solmans’ shop to connect with
the North Main street sewer, to abate
the present nuisance of an open sewer,
and Messrs. A. Solmans, J. E. Bay-
mond and Councilman Joseph Volk,
and Dr. Bohannan were appointed a
committee in the matter, they to report
at the next meeting of the council. The
council adjourned to the 28th, the last
meeting of the present board. It will
be followed by a "grand dinner at the
City Hotel. .

Episcopal Ministers Meet.
.The Fairfield County Clerical Asso-
ciation held its annual meeting in Trin-
ity Church, Bridgeport, yesterday.
There were present the Rev. William
Tatlock, D.D. , archdeacon, and Messrs.
French, Hallock, Bolles, Hamilton,
Warner, Sherman, and Hooker. The
Holy Eucharist was celebrated by the
rector of the parish, Rev. Louis N.
Booth.
At the business meeting following,
the Rev. Louis French, of Darien, was
re-elected president, and the Rev. Olin
Hallock, of South Norwalk, secretary
and treasurer. The Rev. W. Everett
Johnson of St. Chrysostom’s, New York.
was introduced and read a very practi-
cal and instructive paper on “The
Value of the Brotherhood of St. An-
drew in Parochial Work,” after which
there was an animated discussion of the
topic by those present.
At the close of the meeting the mem-
bers of the association were entertained
at luncheon by the ladies of Trinity
parish.
