Constable Conley arrested Louis
Gurillo this morning for keeping an
unlicensed female canine. Gurillo paid
the costs and promised to bring satis-
factory proof that he had killed the
animal.
The captain of the schooner from
Long Island found it hard work dis-
posing of his cargo Of potatoes at sixty
cents a bushel, and sailed for Roway-
ton, where he quickly disposed of the
remainder of his cargo. '

This morning a telephone dispatch
was received here from Stamford to ap-
prehend a couple of colored individ-
uals. On the arrival of the 8.50 train
Constable Conley and officer Knapp
boarded the train and “spotted” their
men, A. Gilwise and Aaron Reed by
name. Conley took Reed, but Gilwise
jumped off the train, scaled the fence
and ran down to Swords’ backyard
with Knapp close at his heels, so close,
indeed, that he was captured. Both
were placed in the station-house. They
were wanted for stealing a watch. The
watch recovered is perhaps worth one
dollar, possibly not more than 75 cents.

The veterans Of Old Well H. and L.
Co. held a reunion at Dorlon Point,last
night. Covers were laid for thirty-six.
The feast was one of landlord Powers’
best and it was heartily enjoyed. Story
telling, singing and feasting were kept
going until 12.40, at. which time the par-
ty returned home in wagonettes, and
other first-class conveyances. The as-
sociation is organized with the folIOw-
ing officers : President, John Jones ;
vice-president Eugene Kinney; treas-
urer, Fred. Knapp; secretary, Henry
Hoffman. It was voted that anyone
having belonged to the Old Well‘s for
five years was eligible for membership.
It was also voted to hold another reun-
ion next year.

A Seal Poacher Killed.
VICTORIA, B. 0., Sept. 15.——The San
Francisco schooner City of San Diego
reached here last night with 600 skins from
Cooper island, on the Russian side of
Behring sea. She reports that Russian
soldiers shot Hunter Vairn, of the seal
poacher Annie, and that a Russian war
ship captured the Hamilton Lewis.
WEE;- Flve-Year-Old Cousin.
ELKTON, Md, Sept. 15.———Harry A. Price,
aged five years, was found dead in his
room with a bullet hole in his head. He
was dressing evidently when shot, as he
had on some of his clothing. His cousin,
Percy Carr, who slept with him, at first
admitted the shooting, but afterward de-
nied it.
' A Big-Lumber Blaze. ~
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich, Sept. 15.—
Hollister & *Jewell’s sawmill at Garden
River, ten miles below this place, caught
fire during a heavy gale from the ‘ north-
west. The mill and stock of dry and hard
lumber, the dock and tramways were de-
stroyed. The loss is $200,000.
Big Real Estate Deal.
MAY’S LANDING, N. J ., Sept. 15,—A deed
was filed in the county clerk's office con—
veying about 35,000 acres of land to the In-
dustrial Land and Development company,
a. syndicate of New York capitalists. The
consideration is $3,199,000.
Smokeless Powder Tested.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 15.—-The navy dc-
partment has made a very satisfactory
trial of smokeless powder for small arms
of American manufacture. The trial
showed a speed of 2,180 feet per second
with a. pressure of 11.9 tons in the cham-
ber.
Hanged Himself in His Barn.
NYACK, N. Y., Sept. 15,—W. W. John-
son, formerly a well known business man
at Stony Point, committed suicide by
hanging himself in his barn. He had
lately been drinking heavily.
