The case of Thos. McLoughlin who

yesterday to to-morrow at 9 o’clock.
Messrs. James Olinstead. H. Theile
and J. R. Raymond started for the
Thousand Islands this morning. They
expect to come back again some day.
The wedding of Mr. William Thomp-
son of New Britain and Miss Iva Still-
son takes place at the home of the
bride on Haviland street, this evening.
George Lane finished a dozen of hats
at Raymond & Comstock’s yesterday,
after which he went down the river and
netted a bushel of crabs. There was
one shedder in the basket.
Fred Quittman will chaperone a
party of his German friends to the is-
lands on Capt. Speeler Smith’s yacht-

John Comstock is in receipt of his
finisher-’s card, and some there are who
believe he will go to work. John has
seen the day when no one of his weight
could down him—finishing hats.
Some vandal drove a nail or some
other like substance into a marble post
in Willis Cavanagh’s marble yard yes-
terday, clipping off a large piece of the
post. Jail would be too good for such

The employees at the Consolidated
railroad freight office presented Capt.
Bearse witha vote of thanks twelve
feet in length for the fish sent
them during his trip down east. Mr.
Bearse was too taken aback to reply,
but promised to do the same thing over
again next July.
Walter Keith, who lives on Cove
street, East Norwalk, turned on the
faucet at the sink and found no water,
it having been shut ofi‘ from the mains
for repair. He left the house forget-
ting to set the faucet. On his return
he fullIld every room on the first floor
flooded with about ten inches of water.
He and his family slept away from
home last night.
Mr. O. L. Adams who has been look-
ing at his farm in Redding for the past
week. returned home this morning.
, He tells your reporter that there is an
epidemic of four legged skunks in that
place. He says that a lady friend of
his killed four of the pesky things yes-
terday, and that anyone in the place
that. has not killed or exchanged Com-
pliments with one.0f the tribe is looked
down upon with scorn. He reports a“
scarcity of fruit, but says that other
crops are in keeping with the skunk
crop. Mr. Adams has gained apparent.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING.
The only one absent from the ad-
journed meeting" of the council last
night was Councilman Selleck. A pe-
tition to have Elmwood and Hillside
place, placed in proper condition was
received and referred to the committee
with power. Bids were received from
the Norwalk and South Norwalk Elec-
tric Co. and the Norwaik Gas Light
CO. for lighting the city streets, refer-
red to the committee on lights. Messrs.
F.M. Pierce, Wm. Thompson and A.
Bach presented bids for the sewer on
Grove street. and A. Bach was awarded
the contract. Committee on .streets
and cross-walks were instructed to ad-
vise with street commissioner as to the
layout oflP. S. Cunningham’s property.
The sum Of $50 was appropriated to
Putnam Hose Co.,_ 325 to Old Well
H. and L. CO. and $25 to the Fire Po-
lice. It was voted to purchase 500 feet
of hose. The committee on streets was
empowered to cause cross-walks to be
laid on North Main and Washington
streets where needed. The committee
on streets was ordered ,to have the
stream of‘water running through the
property of Annie 0. Haviland, corner
O£Cedar street and West avenue, plac-
ed in a sanitary condition. Another
electric light was ordered placed on
South Main street and the council ad-
journed.
