Mrs. John Taylor 1s quite sick at her

Herman Quitner was in town this
morning on legal business.

returned home from a visit in New

Rev. Mr. Pegg of the East N orwalk
church will exchange with Rev. Mr.
Cooper of Milford, to-morrow.
. The household furniture of John Mc-
Mahon were brought up on the City of
Albany last night. He will reside here.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thompson, and
son, of Harlem, are visiting their par-
cuts 011 Van Zandt avenue, East Nor-
walk. _
There will be an auction sale of
building lots on the R. B. Snowden
property this afternoOn. Music by
Heine’s band.
A neighborhood clambakc was held
at the residence of Henry Taylor, Sea-
~ side Place, last evening. It was hearti-
ly enjoyed by all.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Morton of Red
Bank, N. J ., and Mr. and Mrs. John
Kelly of Boston, Mass, are visiting
friends in East N orwalk.
A lawn party for the benefit of the
West N orwalk Union chapel fund, will
be held at the residence of Wm. Mather
next Wednesday evening.
Douglas Fowler Post, G. A. R., will
meet next Monday night to take action
in the matter of visiting Northport, L.
I., by moonlight. on a steamer:

The East Norwalk Sunday school
Will join the South Norwalk Methodist
Sunday school in their excursion and
picnic to Glen Island on the 29th of
this month.
Volunteer Hose company of East
Norwalk has purchased the old Metho-
dist church, and building mover Par-
trick is putting it in readiness to move
to a site near LeCount’s shop.
-. Constable Conley yesterday placed
an attachment on groceries, etc., at the
store of Edw. Porcupile on Raymond
street, to cover a claim of A. W. Wal-
lace lb 00. to the amount of about $70
Mr. George Sales, for the past four
years a canvasser for the John Han-
cock Insurance Co., has resigned to ac-
cept the special agency for South Nor-
walk of the Manhattan Life Insurance
Co., of New York.
A meeting of the committee having
the Labor day picnic and parade in
charge was held last night, and vacan-
cies on the different committees filled.
Another meeting will be held at the
Mahackemo hotel next Thursday even-
ing.
The South Norwalk club had a first
class time at Betts’ island yesterday.
Among the other pleasures was a feast
gotten up by landlord'Hall of the City
hotel, and it was a feast fit for the gods.
The party returned home happy and
sunburned.
A package of sticks, twigs, spices,
etc, from Mott street, N. Y., awaits
the pleasure of Sam Wang at the U. S.
Express office. It is valued at $5.00
but it doesn’t lock to be worth 5 cents.
It might, however, make good soup——
for a Chinaman.
John De Mara was fined $2 and costs
for drunkenness this morning. As he
lay in a hammock in one of the cages
thiS'morning, he said he was a Count,
but the remark was of no account as he
was too drunk to be accountable for'
what he remarked.
-For some days a four inch pipe that
supplies water ‘at Raymond Bros.
wharf has been clogged up, and every
efl'm t to 'punch the obstruction out.
has proved futile. Yesterday morning
the hydrant was taken up and a three
pound eel and a turtle‘~ 0 inches by 3%
inches were taken from the pipe. The
turtle was found to be punched full of
holes.
An Adams express wagon driven by
Harry Wilson ran into a caniage
standing in front of Hoyt’ s pharmacy
this morning, breaking the shafts of
the carriage and wrenching a wheel.
The-carriage ,was owned by Mrs. Mary
qut.: Fortunately there was no one
in it. '
claimed all knowledge of the accident.
Possibly he was frightened that he
forgot it. We would suggest that he
be more careful as to how he drives in
the future.

Miss Iva Stillson, daughter of Drug-
gist G. C. Stillson, is to wed Mr.
Thompson, of New Britain, on the 21st
of this month. Miss'stillson is a'gradu-
ate of the State Normal school and a
young lady who wins the love and re-
spect of all who form her acquaintance.
Many are the congratulations already
offered. '
At daylight this-morning there might
have been seen a large dog with about
threeyards of‘rop‘e slowly walking up
South Main street. Just then a good
looking fellow dressed-pin blue cloth
and brass buttons hove in sight.
canine scented danger and started on a
run-down Haviland street with the man
in blue close on his heels. The pace
of both was lively, but the dog turned
into Water str est. a dozen lengths ahead
and made good his escape. This was
an arrest Where fer once Gladstone
.' failed to. get there, although- he at one
time had his foot on the dog’s halter.
There was no report of the escape on
the police blotter.
George Sherwood employed at Louns—
bury, Mathewson 8.: Co’s went downthe
harbor fishing yesterday, with his son
and the avowed purpose of annihilating
the black-fish tribe. After battling with
the adverse tide and high waves for two
hours he finally reached the fishing
grounds ofl Betts island. Sherwood was
all excitement and anxious to break the
record of South Norwalk’s champion
fisherman, Wm. Bouton. Mr. Bouton
is credited with having caught three
fish'on two hooks at one haul, and to
have filled two bushel baskets in as
many hours. Mr. Sherwood’s books
were rather the worse for rust, and the
sihker, a nail, was not in the best of
form, but nothing daunted he baited
the hooks and threw them over the side
of the boat. There was a bite and he
twitched the line so hard that the hooks
became caught in the rigging of the
boat and before he could extricate them
his son who accompanied him had land-
ed a fish in the boat. They fished for
three hours and succeeded in catching
one four ounce sand po l'gy and fifty-
two sea spiders. He proposes taking
Mr. Bouton along with him the next
time he goes fishing.
