Harry Reynolds and Miss Ellen Craw-
ford are soon to be married.
Gus Pitzer the barber-j eweler put in
a new Butler safe this morning.
Ten oyster steamers were moored at
the wharfs in this city, this morning.
John Preston this morning paid a
fine of $1 and costs for getting drunk.
James K. Crofut was in receipt of a
valuable spaniel dog from Philadelphia,
this morning.
The shipment of hats from this city
for the week ending May 9th, was 452
cases, 239 racks. _ --
Don’t forget the Sunday school con-
vention that meets at the First M. E.
church to-morrow.
Builder Raymond’s yacht Julia has
been sent to Bridgeport Where she will
be used in planting seed oysters.
Frank Lassen’s hotel at Calf Pasture
is open and he is receiving considerable
patronage even thus early in the sea-
son.
Jack Carliart of Spring Hill and one
of the best masons in town, had a se-
vere hemorrhage of the stomach yes-
tcrday.
A large number of people took ad-
vantage of the beautiful day yesterday
and drove to Dorlon Point to get a
sniff of sea air. '
There was a large attendance at
Michael Garrigan’s funeral yesterday.
The remains were interred at St.
Mary’s cemetery.
Regular meeting of the “Eben Hill”
Council of American Order of Steam
Engineers, at Pythian Hall, Friday
evening, 15th inst.
The summary process case in which
\V. S. Crane prays for the ejectm ent
Of Henry T. Burtis, tried this morning
before Justice Morrell and a jury. A
verdict was rendered for plaintif.
Frank Bradbury sailed his yacht up
from Port Chester, yesterday. He left
there at 11 o’clock arriving at this port
at 8.11. They were becalmed part of
the time.
Warren E. Smith has set loose on
Cliimmons Island twenty—four quail,
and parties are warned against shooting
any birds either on Chimmons, Hay or
Cop’s Islands.
The boiler that furnishes steam for
the Raymond turning shop on Water
street was in the hands of the boiler in-
spector this morning. -
The proposed boat race between two
young men in this city yesterday, from
Dorlon’s Point to the buoy and back,
has been postponed for a week, so that
the arrangements can be completed.
Chief Vollmer and Officer Gladstone
went to West Norwalk this morning for
John Stratton, who has been adjudged
insane. He was taken to the asylum
for the insane, at Middletown, on the
9:10 train.
The clothing thieves who stole two
pairs of trousers from Davis the cloth-
ier last week have been traced to
Bridgeport, and Chief Vollmer has re-
quested the police of that city to look
out for them.
In the article descriptive of Hoyt &
Beers’ new yacht. Florence B., we
neglected to state that the excellent
joiner work was done by James Con-
sino, a first-class workman in the em-
ploy of Builder Raymond.
On Tuesday evening May 19th, the
Grand Master and other high masonic
Officials of the state willassemble in the
rooms of Old \Vell Lodge and assist in
giving a prominent dominie of this
city his third degree. A banquet will
also be given and a grand time is prom-
ised.
James Sutton Of Stamford, aged 40,
a workman, was arrested for disorderly
conduct Saturday night, and early yes-
tcrday morning shot himself dead in
his cell with a pistol which the Officer
who searched him failed to find. De-
spondency over his wife’s recent death
unsettled his mind.
A Sunday school convention will be
held in the Methodist church, to-mor-
row. The morning session will open
at 10:30 and the afternoon session at 2
O’clock. An interesting programme
will be presented, and it is expected
that there will be a large attendance
from all over the country.
Saturday afternoon a man rushed
into the baggage room Of the Consoli-
dated road and breathlessly informed
“J aek” Cashaw that there was a corpse
on the track a short distance below the
station. Cashaw grabbed a stretcher
and started on a run to the point indi-
cated and found a decapitated black
cat. The joker has since kept mighty
shy of Jack. '
About 9:30 o’clock Saturda night,
E. E. Gorham of East Norwa k heard
a Home about his house. " Looking out
of a window he saw a lot of bean poles
11d shavings lying close to the house
and a man about to light the same.
Hc shouted and the man ran away, but
'eing undressed Mr. Gorham could
0t follow him.
SPECIAL MEETING.
The ‘Hose Purchase Question Will‘
be Acted Upon‘Directlyby the
L ', C'o'urt of. Burgesses. .
This morning Warden Keeler issued
a call for-a special meeting to-night of
the Court of Burgesses. The notifica-
tion is-worded as follows : “ You are
hereby notified and warned that a spe—
cial Burgess meeting will be held at the
borough court room on Monday, the
11th day of May, 1891, at 7.30 p. m., for
the purpose of appointing a committee
to purchase 3,000 feet of hose for the
use of the fire department of this city.”
This call seems to be in line with the
opinion of Borough Attorney Warner,
that the borough meeting exceeded its
powers in appointing a committee to
purchase the much-needed hose.

BASE BALL.
The Bridgeports came over on Satur-
day and met the Gorhams on the Bax-
ter grounds in what-proved to be the .
best mufling match of the season. The
Gorhams played their usual good game,
but the Bridgeports while they had a
first class pitcher in Beers, gave him
the poorest kind of support, the short
stop and right fielder being especially
poor, the latter making it a point to
drop every ball that came withinfhis
reach. The Gorhams succeeded in
making 14 runs 011‘ of six hits, while the
Bridgeports could get but 5 Off the
same number. It is hoped that the
Bridgeports will secure a good team
and give the GOrhams another trial, as
the excellent pitching of Beers demon-
strated the fact that with good support
behind him the Gorhams would have
to play the game Of their life to defeat
them. The following is the score by
innings.

'Dastardly Assault.
Yesterday afternoon Officer Gormley
arrested an Italian named Pasquale
Christiano, on the charge Of having at-
tempted to criminally assault the nine
years old daughter Of James Paulino,
(Theresa by name,) with whom he
boarded, at the Rocks House, on the
Rocks road. This morning the accused
was examined before Justice Austin,
Attorney Walsh prosecuting, and
George Queen acting as interpreter.
The charges were two in number, sim-
ple assault and assault with intent to
ravish. The story as told by the little
girl is unfit for publication, but proba-
ble cause was found to justify binding
the accused over to the Superior Court.
