A. F. Bishop, president or the Union
Manufacturing 0).. died at his home in
the borough on Monday and his funeral

Bishop was well known in town, being
one of Norwalk's foremost business men.
Mrs. Carter, his mither-in-law, came
from Princeton, N. J., some days ago to
attend to his wants and was taken with
pneumonia and'died yesterday morning.

Last Thursday evening a wellvdressed
young man. about 25 years old, regis-
tered at the New England hotel in Dan‘-
bury as blsrris Carey, and was given a
room, for which he paid in advance.
Early Friday morning a strong smell of
gas was noticed in the hallways, and
was finally traced to the room occupied
by Mr. Carey. The door was broken
Open and the occupant of the room found

At Fair Maven on Tuesday John Kirn
fucetiously tried to draw the back of a
butcher knife across the neck of his
frierd, Andrew (idl‘Ylll. In his basic to
execute the joke he used the. wrong side
of the knife and came very near killing
Andrew on the spot. By good luck the
cut was not deep enough to be danger-
ous. The doctor who was called said a
very little more. depth would have been
fatal. ,
Last evening there came from Tarry~
town. N. Y. a man who said that a few
days ago he was stricken blind and that
lie .was in search of his two brothers
who were working in South Norwalk.
lie was sitting in the depot and a rulin-
lier of persons interested themselves in
his behalf but. were unable to find any
persons answering the description of the
blind man‘s brothers. \
The armory fair will open Monday,
May 2d, and ' continue one week.
It will probably be the grandest event of
the kind that. has ever taken place in
this town as elaborate preparations have
been in progress for several months.
Governor Lounsbury wrote yesterday
his acceptance of the invitation to be
present one evening with his staff, and
other prominent personages will be there.
With music by the Norwalk banjo club,
singing by the Germania and Arion so-
cieties, awkwark drills, dancing and oth—
er attractions the affair will be a grand
success.
As in previous years the hall giver. by
the Old \V‘ell Hook 6: Ladder 00. on
Wednesday evening in Music Hall was
a very pleasant affair. The selections
rendered by Moselin’s orchestra previous
to the dancing were highly entertaining
and were well received. Dancing began
about 9:30 o‘clock and was heartily en-
tered into by those present. The music
was fine, the programmes, which were
engraved expressly, for the occasion,
were very pretty, and the manner in
which tbeevent passed 06 does credit
