regiment returned to the city, com-

meet the boys again and we spent the
evening very pleasantly telling each
other our adventures for the last four or
five months.

were very tired from their march. so‘we
had no drill but they took things easy.

Chas. Khan, who was detailed as waiter
for the doctor, were at \\‘alatka and
were taken with Co. '8‘.
May Sl.-—This morning another to
port came in that Co. 'II‘ were taken
prisoners, which report did not prove
true. but originated from the fact that a
small squad of Company 'B‘ were at an-
other station. who were not taken when
the Captain and the other part of the
company were. but were afterwards
picked up. These reports caused a
great excitement. and at ‘2 p. m. we had
orders to report every available man we
could muster to march to Vulusia. At
‘2:'l0p. 11:. ordered to draw ten day ra-
tions and be ready to fall In ato "" :90 p. m.,
the men to any nothing but their ra-
tions. rubber blankets. shelter tent. and
sizty rounds of ammunition. At 4 p. m.
we took up our line of march. Before
dark we reached the Seven Mile Creek;
tilled our canteens with fresh water.
and pushed forward until after mid-
night.

was very warm. and in some places very
dusty. We had made fifteen miles in

who were not afraid of the snakes and
alligators went in bathing; then we had
our dinner and lay down in the shade to
sleep and rest. About 2 p. m. a Ines-
senger came riding at full speed into
our camp from Colonel Harris of the
Seventy~Fifth Ohio Regiment, who
were now mounted infantry and had
gone on in advance. He reported that
the rebels had again crossed the river
and were advancing upon Col. Harris‘
