put to plea before the chant. My fees
for court attendance amount. to $300.

from the Danbury jail to the Bridgeport:

for the year was $1.200. After I de~
ducted my expensfii I feund that I had

The reading by Mr. George, Riddle at
the Congregational Church last. Monday
evening was well attended by an appre~
ciative audience. The first part of the
entertainment, made up of 8003!“ s from
Shakespeare‘s “Milisummer Night‘s
Dream," w as a :remarkablc exhibition
of the reader‘s verszitality. Any thing
more exquisite than his rendering of
the fairy scene could hardly be imagined.
and yet: without apparent effort. be
passed from these to the grotesque an-
tics of "the rude men of Athens.” "The
Dream of Eugene Aram" was a terrible
piece of realism, rendered must affective-
lv. A lighter piece, "The Sewing
School for Scandal." was a pleasing
close to a very enjoyable entertainment.
Altogether it may be safely said that Mr.
Riddle has deepened the impression
made here‘ a year ago and won iucreas~
ed respect. for that finished and artis-
tic character of his work. His future
career will be Watched with much in-
terest.

that the consent. of the legislature, would
be necessary to enable the Consolidated
road to erect a new bridge across the
Connecticut river at Lyme; but there
will be no opposition to granting permis-
