After two or three wecks Colonel Wil-
coxson put me in charge of the rations
for the post. I had to draw the rations
by requisition on the Commimary de-
patttncnt, and ace them properly distri-
buted that) among the men. Sometimes
we would have on our toll from four
and five hundred and thou in two days
we would bu reduced to one hundred.
My predecessor had been in charge for
a long time. He did not belong even to
the army. He had been in the service,
but had been discharged {or some cause.
It was a hard thing for him to give up.
He came to me and wanted to give me
some points and then have me divide
