The story of how Dr. Foote had been

which outside papers have been delight-
ed in relating. was discredited by an old
veteran named (loo. Elmer. who testi-
lied that he had. taken care of Foote up
to the time of his death. and had washed
him, besides keeping him supplied with
clean sheets and nnderclotlies. SeVeral
witnesses were examined but nothing of
importance was divulged.
Isaac Bracken had been at the Home
three years and always had plenty of
food. Never heard Pelham: abuse any
one. It was a common thingfor a man
to come home drunk and be disorderly.

always been treated well by all the of-
ficers of the Home. Never heard Pel~
ham use profane language. Had seen
poor bread once or twice. .If anything
had been wrong he would have reported

TALMADGE BAKER TESTIFIES.
Owing to lack of time Mr. Baker was
notjier‘mitted to give to the Board the
workings of the institution from the time
he became Trustee. but stated that it
was July 1. 1881. that he with Messrs.
Couch and Fitch became Trustees of
the Home. They attended the place on
an avera e of once a week, and always
inspecte the premises. and for their
services received no compensation. Mr‘
Palham was underctheir power and they
have reason to believe he has carried
out their orders faithfully. Mr. Baker
stated that he purchases all the meat
himself and get- thc 'best he can. In-

following resolution was written. but it
was forgotten. so deeply interested were
