Thursday afternoon we took a sail
down the harbor with councilman Reed,
of the firm of Reed & Housman, oyster
shippers and planters. and went over
much of the oyster ground of the town.
But little idea of the 'extent of theoyster
business can be gained from any descrip-
tion of it. The territory devoted to
planting in this town includesn tract
five miles long and three miles \vide.and
most of it is good ground. The princi-
pal annoyance to deep water lantern
are the stair fish or “five fingers." In-
side planters have little trouble with
“live lingers.“ but "tan fingers“ often
appropriate their properl -'. and watchers
