There was an accident at Nziugattt k
late Tuesday afternoon which bare ‘
missed causing the death of two men.
The High Rock train due at the Nouga-
tuck station at 5:80 struck an ice wagon
which was trying to cross the track near
the hoe shop. There were two men—
John Bristol and \\’illiam Snider—in the
wagon and they were hurled violently
against. a coal car standing on a switch.
Bristol received a number of dee cuts
about the head and face and was dly
shaken up and Snider was badly hurt
about the head. although the skull was
not fractured. He will recover. There
was not enough of the wagon left whole
worth mentioning.

and “Wednesday. A larxe delegation
attended. The Treasurer‘s report was as
follows: Receipts from the state fund
$5.000. The balance of $1,130 on hand
at the last; report brings it up to $6.130.
The'expenditurea for benefits was $1,679,
for the year and the total expenditures
$1,796.98. This leaves the state fund

The Prohibitionists of Bridgeport held
the first campaign meeting Monday ev—
ening. \\'e quote the following account:
The opening address was delivered by
Rev. 11. A. Delano of South Norwalk.
He kept everybody busy listening for
about an hour. and nobody seemed tired.
Ila-claimed that there was never so much
need of a reform or third party as now,
and said the Prohibition party had come
to stay 50 years if need be until the rum
power was demolished. There was noth-
ing whatever to expect from the demo-
crats, he said, because they openly and
on principle opposed the temperance
movement. The republican party was
soundly abused for its alleged deceitful~
ness and evasive action in regard to tem-
perance. There really is no help for the
country in his opinion except through
the third arty. When Mr. Delano, fiu-
ished rec ing his 8 oh and sat down he
was loudly ap lau ed. \V. S. Bailey,
also of South orwalk.followed in a stir-
ring temperance speech. He said Fair-
fleld county was thoroughlv organized;
and- meetings like this would be held in
every town in the state. He urged the
