fun for Lyon and Lauder but work for
Burger. and liercaficr he is going crab—
hing alone.

George II. \\'aterbury. a prominent
democratic politician. ii long time res‘
dent. of this city. went crubbing Thurs;
day. He announced that he was going
to catch them all. He had captured
twenty, and moved to another place.
and was in the act. of casting anchor,
when the boat upset. and George, the
twenty crabs. two pipes. aper of to-
bacco, a box of parlor matcoes, a silver
watch and a good suit of clothes went
overboard. The crabs escaped, the
watch had to be pumped out, the to
bacco and clothe:- dried, The only dead
loss was on the crabs and pipes. George
kept good natured as usual, remarking.

Henry Irving. the famous actor, was
in this city for a short time Wednesday,
and strolled about the streets near the
depot. and down on the \Vashington
street bridg . He came hereby aoci~
dent and returned to New York on the
first train. Miss Ellen Terry and her
daughter, accompanied by Mrs. Benoui
Lockwood, whose guests they are to be,
started for Narragansett Pier by the 2:15
P. M."train on the Shore Line. Mr.
Irving and his'friend J. C. Parkinson
went up to the Grand Central Station to
see them off. Aspecial car had been
engaged for them. and Mr. Irving enter~
ed it to say goodbye. He became so
interested in conversation that he was
carried off on the train. and bad to come
as far as this city. He returned three
hours later and found Hr. Parkinson
waiting patiently in the station.

About sixty delegates representing six-
teen subordinate councils and 2.225 mem-
bers attended the annual meeting of the
state council. 0. U. A. M" in Stamford
Tuesday. The rigor-t of the secretary
showed that the 0 er was prospering in‘
Connecticut. the membership having in~
creased 600 in twelve months, and the
treasurer reported that during the past
year the funds of subordinate councrls
had been increased from $11,500 to $15»
000. After officers as follows had been
elected, the delegates dined at the Bruns-
