facturing cigars without obtaining a
pro r license or giving bonds. Owing
to t to absence of District Attorney Stan-
ton the case was put over to Sept. 94.
and Leavenworth was released on bonds.
The case against him was worked up by
Revenue Agent L'trkin. who was given
the work by Collector Troop. The latter
had received an anonymous letter giving
details of the way revenue laws were
evaded in the western rt of the State.
Agent Larkin began
arrest of Henry Whitlock. a cigar man-
ufacturer. While working on this case.
he got a clue leading him to suspect
Leavenworth. Leavenworth. it is said,
wanted to settle. and gave the officers
ints about some other citizens of
ding. Danbu . and Bethe]. Their
cases have since it worked up. and
some interesting developments are ex-
ted. as it is said that Falrfiold County
is full of people who are accountable to

A Prompt Settlement.
Fortyseight persons who claim to have
suffered damages during the recent acci-
dent at the Seaside Pier at Rockawny
Beach have.- been settled with by the
Knickerbocker Steamboat Company of
this city. which owns the excursion
steamers Columbia and Grand Republic.
The prompt settlement by the company
has elicited a‘ flood of favorable oom-
ment. Only three more excursionists
remain whose claims have not been ad-
judicated and these Wlll be attended to
at the earliest moment. The Knicker-
