CasTLETON. \'t.. April 3.—Bolger Bros.
late quarrymen. bought a cheap horse
last fall for use on the derricks. He
proved no good, and one evening was
harnessed single. and began pacing. As
soon as the lake was frozen over he was
put. to work on the ice track. and has
paced a mile in 2:01. He has been nam-
ed Hiram Hamilton. He was aired by
Blackstone, he by Rysdy It‘s Hambleton-
tun; dam sired by Gen. Sherman, he by
Columbus—good blood on both sides.

Sulphur for Diphtheria.
John S. Wiles. a surgeon of Thorn-
couibe. Dorset. writes to the London
Times that after two cases of' malignant
diphtheria out of some nine or ten he
had been called to attend ihad proved
fatal. the mother of a sick child stiotived
him an extract from an American paper
concerning a practitioner who used out
phur to cure the disease. Accordingly
he used milk of sulphur for infants. and
thwvers of sulphur for older children and
adults, brought to a creamy consistency
with glycerine. Dose—-a teaspoonful or
more, according to age, three or four
times a day, swallowed slowly, and ap-
plication of the same to the nostrils With
a sponge. Result—he did not. lose-a case
tumor elsewhere, and he succeeded 'in
saving life when the affection had almost
blocked the throat.
