twelve o‘clock Monday afternoon. dinner.
consisting of roast beef. roast ham.
mashed potatoes and turnips. sliced to~
matoes and cucumbers, pic lee. pie and
coffee was served. Nearly six tons of
fresh meal. will be required during the
wwk. Mr. Thallieiuicr has also ordered
500 fowls and 900 pounds of ham. and
has sent to lhe camp ground 275 pounds
of smoked tongue. Each day 300 louverI
of bread and 200 quarts of milk are nec~
csaary. and both bread and milk are for-
warded each morning from New Haven.
For Friday. 900 unds of blue fish,
sword fish and ha ibul has been ordered.
Thirty pounds of tea and 200 pounds of
notice will be sufiicient to supply the 5'30
men six days. Butter costing two will
also be used.
LOCAL POLITICS.
The Democrats will not organize a
campaign marching club.
Now that all parties are organized in
the city. lively times may soon be ex~
pected in the presidential canvas.
The Democrats have engaged the
room under Beanie‘s meat market on
Main street for headquarters during the
campaign. The room will be put in
shape at once.
The Re ublicans could not have made
a better 0 nice of president for their
campaign club than Mr. Baker. or a
better secretary than Mr. Scott. Both
are workers. and will make it a success
ful canvass it that is possible.
Gen. Taylor. the Democratic war horse.
is the right man in the right place at the
head of the Cleveland and Hendricks
campaign club. As an organizer and
worker the llencral has no superior.

evening in the campaign quarters. Toni.

over it that no surface of Mirth alone
will stand the wear.
It is not necessary to pay for flu; niac-

can be borrowed at a low rate. and prob~
ably at an expense of about “300 a
year for interest Main street could be
made as line and comfortable a thorough-
fare and drive as there is in the country,
while the indirect saving in wear and
tear of vehicles and horsellesh would be
impossible of computation.
It is too late for such an improvement
this year. but it is high time such action
waszoonsidercd as will assure a better
street for next season. As it is it is a
disgrace to the city and one it can ill
afford to longer permit.
The present council might ascertain
the cost of macadamizing Main street
from the corner of Concord to the bor-
ough line. and then means could easily
be devised for having it done so that
operations could be begun next spring
as soon aa‘tho season would allow.
