The meeting of the Mutual Improve-
ment Society at the ()ungrogutional church
Monday night was fiiirly attended. The
literary period now being examined is
that of Louis the Fourteenth—the grmid
monarch. Rev. Arza Hill spoke in his
usually pet-spicuous manner on the Eng-
lish literature of that period. Mr. Elimi-
dorf read an elaborate essay on the cou~
temporary German literature. The litera-
ture of France at that time is to be dis-
cusocd at the next meeting. If even the
productions and the influence of Mul-
iere are considered the meeting will bn
highly interesting. Miss Scott sang an
aria from La Traviatmshc accompanied
herself With delicacy and expression.
Piano solos by Miss Nash who has a charm-
ing touch and Miss Brown, whose scale
passages were very well played, were
somewhat marred by wrong notes. Miss
Benedict played well ll difficult piece, (dif-
ficult in point of expression) and in a
finished style.
