FUN on um Balsam...
Fun on the Bristol was pliiycd at Music
Hall last evening. The weather was cool
and just right for one to enjoy an even-
ing's amusement. Tho pluy was an ex-
cellent one. and drew the largest house of
the season. All tlic parts were in good
hauls and the audience was kept in 31-
most constant roars of laughter during the
whole of the performance by the clever
and laughable acting of Sheridan and the
mimicry of Richards. The olio during
the second act was very good. some of the
singing being skillfully rendcrcd.

Rullrmld Accident.
Bridgeport had a free exhibition of a
railroad accident on a small scale last
Friday morning. between ten and eleven
o‘clock An extra. freight train on the
Naugatuck road was going out. and when
the next to the lost car, a flat loaded with
pig iron, reached the Rosedalc freight shed
one of its wheels. owing to being loose on
the axle, left the rail and throw off the
truck. The car went bobbing along until
it reached the south end of the depot
platform when it took a new dcparture.
by turning completely ovcr, bottom side
up across the track. one portion lying on
the platform and the other on the east
side of the track. The car following,
which was a box car, also took a cunt to
the westward, mountcd the platform,
crashed through the first: iron column.
breaking it off about two or three feet
from the roof, and stopping within six
inches of the brick wall. The brakeman
on this car, not liking the condition of
thing: is said to lipve made a lively scram-
ble for safety to the 60p of the roof over
the platform cable car run under it. A
third car was thrown from the track but
was uninjured. A coupling broke at the
time when chaos began its work. and the
remainder of the train after progressinga
few rods, was brought to a halt. The
work of clearing the track was at. once
begun, and by one o‘clock the wrecks
were removed. A side track permitted
all the regular train to pass by without
any material delay. The loss probably
will not exceed a. thousand dollars. Had
the train been under full headway. and
the locus wheel in the centre of the train.

dciitli of Mrs. Margarct. McQuhac—Sey-
incur, wife of William R. Seymour of this
city. She was it lady who in her charac-
ter and life exemplified the best qualities
of a true and noblc;Chrlatlan womdibood.
Infill! her relations of life she won the re-
spcct, honor and love of all who knew
her. She was giftcd with unusual native
vlvucity of temperament which made her
genial and uttrnctivu in society: and her
kind tliouglitfiiliicna and willingness to
ilcny licrsvlf for others gnvo additional
charm to licr natural graces of mind and
heart. Even while suffering already the
lust sum nwr from the disease that. ended
lltll‘ life. she forgot herself in her watch-
lngs by night, and in care and attention
for a sick and dying neighbor. She was
a worthy member of the congregational
church of tlila city, and for many 'ycars
an active. devoted teacher in its Sabbath
hool. Her last. days were cheered by
hriatian faith and hope, without a mur-
mm or complaint. At her own request.
the hymn: “ Josus Lover of My Soul;"
was sung. and aim followed every word
with deepest fooling. One of licr last ut-
terance was: “I am having a beautiful
massing away.“
Ilcr funeral was attended at her late resi-
dcncc on Tuesday afternoon, by a large
gather of our citizens, whose saddened
hearts and tearful eyes borc testimony to
the respect and affection with which she

of Rev. KEN. panning assisted by Rev. J.
M. Taylor

occupied by Thomas Barry at Graniteville.

iilurmed the neighborhood. 'In a short
time John Morton arrived on the spot
and with the assistance of Mr. Crow they
succecdcd‘in staying the progress of the
flames. and. would have undoubtedly saved
the building if ey had succeeded in get-
tingplcnty of \ ter. The truck soon ar-
rived iit the fire but were too late to save
the building. The furniture and house-
hold cfl‘ccts were about all saved. The
home was owned by Mr. John Gotham,
and we understand was insured.
On Thursday evening the community
was again startled by the alarm of fire.
and it was soon ascertained tliiit the real-
dence of Mr. R. (l. Millard (it Spriugwood
was on fire. The fire companies were
soon on the ground and two streams were
soon on the fire. but seemingly with little
effect, and before it was put out the build-
ing was ti total loss. Mr. and Mrs. Mil-
lard left the house about quarter past
seven to go up town. and when opposite
Mr. George Benedict‘s residence on West
avenue heard the alarm of fire. and they
returned to the city and found that it was
their own house that was burning. Mr.
Millard says that there was only one fire
in the house when they left and that was
in the kitchen stove. and he could only
account. for the fire by the explosion of a
kerosene lamp which was left burning.
The house was well insurcd, but the fur-
niture partially. and Mr. Millard will ac-
tually loosc about two thousand dollars.
The Norwalk. \Vestchester and Continen-
tal companies hold the policies. There
in Home talk of the insurance com-
panies putting up a new house for Mr.
Millard. It will be remembered that the
first fire in this city after llieiutroduction
of water took place at Mr. Millard‘s. burn-
ing up his barn.

have elected nine new members inside of
two months, which gives them a. member-
ship of over sixty.
It. has been finally decided that the
spring on the truck is weak and Foreman
Kinney has engaged Henry Tilly to re-
pair it.
Henry Banger, the artist, is to give the
ladders on the truck a new coat of paint
for the parade.
