Quite an interesting incident occurred
in Mr. A. Solman‘s liiu: factory on Friday
last. It was the presentation of a hand-
some watch and chain to James Flynn by
the finishers in the employ of that firm.
Junie-s Flynn is the youngest apprentice
in the factory. and by his courtesy, obli '-
ing disposition and general good conduct
has gained the good will and esteem of
every one to such rt degrev. that it was re-
ttolved to reward him by it suitable pres-

Wihnot is one of the Commissioners ttp«
pointed b0 the State to designate oyster
grounds in the waters of the town. Early
in June he selected about 10 acres of
grounds in this harbor, and planted 3.6m)
usltels of oysters, oyster shells, sand and
other umterutl good for thc' propogution
of the bivalves. One-fifth of this mixture
was composed of good marketable oys~
tern. It was the Captain‘s intention in
putting down this nutteriul to try to make
a bed of (system by catching the “set; as
it is calle . or floating spawn. This is a
sort of jellydikc substance, thin and
watery, which the oyster emits. and
which floats in the writer, seeking beds Of
this kind on which to adhere and mixture.
Capt. thinot had occasion to leave town
a. few days ago. and during or soon after
that time it is said the. oystot'mon who
were arrested wont to this bed and took
away a large quantity of the o More.
Capt. Wilmot on his return, luarne what
they had been doing. and with State At-
torney Hoyt went to a. grand juror and
had complaints issued against the men.
The papers were at once put into the
bands of Deputy Sheriff W. S. Reynolds,
and at midnight Friday the Depot start-
ed out to make the arrests. About 9
o‘clock Saturday morning Officer Rey-
nolds with his prisoners filed into the little
room which is used for the sessions of
the courp The men arrested out in-
sidoa railing with the Deputy Sheriff.
