was granted to parties off Bridgeport last
year, which lies between Point-Vo-Poiut
Buoy. and the Middle Ground, bids fair to
be as productive as the grounds ofl’ New

Land League Meeting.
Last evening the land league held a
meeting in Music Hall, and the speakers
of the evening were J. S. Brown of Co-
hoes, N. Y.. Counsellor Walsh of Danbury,
Miss Ford of N. Y., and Mrs. D. T. Pur-
nell, mother of the great agitator, Charles
Stewart Parnell. The audience was small
but full of enthusiasm. Miss Orlich pre-
sided at the piano, and Mrs. McCunn sang.
Tlireu little girls came on the stage to wel-
come Mrs. I’urncl upon her arrival, and
read verses of welcome written for the
occasion. The speaking occupied several
hours.

The past season has seemed to be one with
the “ building mania " again, and among
the several new structures in our midst,
none seems to attract more attention than
the new house situated on the corner of
Main and Monroe streets. and owned by
R. H. Rowan, of this city. The size of
the lot is 75 x 125 feet, and for convenc
ienoe and desirability of location is unsur-
passed. The house fronts on Main street,
and presents an appearance both hand-
some and imposing. The main structure
is three full stories. with a two-story ex-
tension. The house is 36 feet, aix inches
front, and 31 feet. alt inches deep. The
roof is a French manual-d, and the tower
is nine feet front and extends five
feet above the roof. The veranda is co-
tagon shape which gives new and unique
finiahto the general front. In its entire
structure the house is unequalled for com-
pletcnoss. convenience and comfort, and
is supplied with every modern improve-
merit.
The basement has an eight-foot ceiling
and is plastered overhead. The entire
house is heated by a Baxter furnace,made
by E. S. Morris 6‘: Co.. of Danbury which
is complete in every particular. The
laundry la in the basement. and “contains
stationary tubs. closets and all possible
conveniences. There are finished apart-
muntu for coal, etc.
First to ho considered on the ground
floor, is the kitchen. which is 1‘3 x 15 and
a half feet. and has a handsome Norwalk
Range put in by S. E. Olmstoml d: 00., of
Norwalk. There are two large pnntrles

rooms. The front will be used M tho
library whilo the remaining five are sleep-
ing apartments. From the front windows
the View is at once charming and mag-
nificent, und adds greatly to the otlicr-
wise cxccmling attractiveness of the
rooms. On this floor is also the bath
room, and all the rooms are supplied with
hot and cold water. There are also head-
lights for vuntilntion in all of the rooms.
0n the third floor there are three rooms
finished oil‘ in the some thorough and sub-
stantial manner which characterizes all
the work.
The, hardware was all furnished by \V.

ornamental. l“. T. Rich. of Mt. Vernon.
did the slitting. and Nuwmunhfi Starr are
painting. The body color is olive and is
to be trimmcd with reel and black, which
will brightly and attractively set forth
the beauties of the architecture. The
lumbcr and brackets were furnished by
ll. R. Fitch. the mason work was done
by lloyt & Boers, and the tinning, roofing
etc., was the work of Nash Bros" and the
work of bringing order and completeness
to this handsome structure has been prin-
ci )lllly in the hands of Georgi) \V. Smith.
I‘lic contract was awurdcd to Smith &
Baker in October, 1850, and work was Lt
oncc begun by them. but owing to the
death of Mr. linker. the responsibility has
rested entirely with Mr. Smith. and lie‘
has performed his duties in a manner very
leasing and acceptable to Mr. Rowan.

The plan for the house was designed by
Mrs. R. H. Rowan. and put to the scale by
Wm. Knapp.
The burn on the premises lately pur-
chased by Geo. C. Stillsou, is owned by
Mr. Rowan. and a carriage drive will be
laid out: It is expected that the house
willbeready for occupancy in about A
month. and Mr. Rowan and his family
will then take ssession. The furniture
of the house w ll be in accordance with
the same good taste displayed in its entire
structure. Mr. Rowan has attended very
carefully to every minute detail calling in
question, convenience and durabilit . and
we wish for himself and family al the
happiness and comfort which their new
house promises for them. and trust that
their enjoyment may be for much time
and in bounteoua proportions.
The Game Law.
Hitherto this law has not been observed
and its enforcement has been considered
impracticable. In view of these facts the
following amendment was passed at the
last session of the Imgislature.
