has been for some time under advisement.

will. It is said. he reported to the house
for action at an early date. Should the
bill no omen law. it will effect the
interest of ii lurgenumber of persona. who
gain a livelihood in the business of taking
oysters by common dredges. such as have
been in use by them from time inimomo-
rial. On the Sound. between the ports of
New London and Greenwich. there are
not less than 3.000 persons. whose daily
labor and income. wtll bedirectly aflccted
by the bill. These men cannot compete
with steam. and they claim that steam if
legalized. will not only ruin them. but
ruin the oyster beds from which they now
obtain subsistence. The ‘iu'guiueut is
strong and in almost all pomts is unim~
sweruble. There are but cmnpamtively
few days in the your that oysteriuou can
labor to advantage anyway; the storms to
which we are subject on this New Em,-
lnnd coast preventing. and the inclement
weather encountered each winter. the lute
severe season being an instance in point.
