A Wesleyan minister. Rev. w. Powell
Brown. has patented. says the Slicilicld.

pears to be a simple and practical means
of lessening the number of deaths by
drowning. A chemical preparation is in-
serted in a portion of the coat. waistcoat
or drum. It docs not add to the weight or
in any way alter the appearuiice of the
garment. The prcusratinn is inserted
between the lining and the cloth: in the
case of a cost. it is placed on each side of
the breast and up the back. The moment
a man falls into the water the coat inflates
and he cannot keep his bond under llic
wavN. The invention was practically
tested lit the swiumiing both of the Shef-
