The Corner Factor-y.
Since Roth :8: (ioldsclimidt begun the
manufacture of corsets in this city their
trade has become so great that they find
it almoot impossible to fill their orders.
and are at present having about one~hulf
of their stitching done in New Haven.
Last week we went over the factory with
Mr. Roth to witness the operation of mak-
ing the garment that is considerod an in-
dispensable article of female attire. The
dimension of the building in which the
work is done have already been given.
and they nilunl ample room for the turn-
ing out daily of hundred dozen corsets.
The comets are started on the third floor
where they are cut. This is done by
band. a table twenty‘live yards long runs
the length of this floor. which is divided
into cutting and ironing and atorching de-
partments. On this table 48 thicknesses
of the material of which the corset is to
be made is laid. The cutter then lays on
the metal patterns. and with a knife like
that used by leather cutters in shoe fuc-
torieo. cuts through the whole thickness.
The parts are then put up in doncna. with
the stool claspo. and go down tothe stitch.
