A few weeks ago we published an item
about a Danbury man coming down here
and trying to sell a horse and saying he
thought he could trot in three minutes
because the Sunday before he had carried
the Methodist Minister to Bethel and on
the way down the minister held his watch
and said the horse was travelling at a
three minute gate. The paragraph was
republished in two of the Danbury papers
and some one has been mean enough to
make a personal thing of it. and name
ltcv. Spencer Bray as the minister. The
whole of the matter is this. Representa-
tive ll. ll. Rowan. is a joker. and he tells
ii good many stories of his relatives who
live in lilinhiii'y. and he one day in this
oilicc told the story in substance as We
printed it. And if thothing ever occurred
it was years ago. Mr. Bray had nothing

this time—at least on this side of the river
—-that the carriage bridge is useless. Many
of us are obliged to cross by the way of
the railroad bridge: but there are some of
us——ladies and children especially—who.
being unaccustomed to the narrow path-
way. dare not venture over this latter
bridge. This being the case. it was quite
natural that some one should hit upon the
idea of establishing a ferry across the gap-
ing chasm. This was begun. I believe. as
soon as the accident to the bridge occurred.
A small sum was charged. which was all
right and proper. and in some instances no
regular charge was made. it being left to
the generosity of the passenger what he
would give—“thank you.“ if no more
could be uttered for the accommodation.
This was continued all Sunday. But on

two cents a head: and who do you think
was the proprietor? No has a person than

A surprise party was given to Albert

his nineteenth birthday. The evening
was passed with music and various rallies
