We hpvn expected all along that the dog
lsw would get us into trouble. but not from
this source. We are not fully convinced.
however. that the above is a genuine doou~
ment. There is an error in hit. IaOoont‘e.
initials. and we presume the cans in much
like the one brought by Dudley P. Ely. in
the name of the bcnk.-without the knowl-
edge and consent of the proper authorities.
Mr. Ely was personally aggrieved by the
communication. but be has made a bank
case in order to save expense to himself.and.
as he thinks, avoid an investigation of the
alleged libellons article. which accused him
of using the bank in his own interests
After thinking over Mr. LeCcunt'e care we
have contain the conclusion that though
we cannot retract a short explanation will
be fully satisfactory. Mr. Lecount‘s dogs
are theories that ho manufactures. and we
are fully prepared to substantiate our state-
ment that they have not the dog license.
But really this libel business is getting
scriont. The entire amount of damages is
now estimated at one hundred million and
ten thousand dollars. If this amount is
awarded. we fear that we shall be seriously
inconvenienced in our business. Dudley in
now sojourning at the watering places. and
probably his pleasures are increased by the
anticipation of the dividends he will receive
when the bank recovers that 310.000 from
us. while we are “ saving up “ to be ready
to pay it. When he gets it. it will help him
out some on his sewer assessment and hotel.
