he had mastered all the studies taught in the
common schools of those days. At fourteen

sex church. Darien. then with Rev. Roswell

Convict criminals; the large per cent. of the

tax it city to arrest. punish and detect
crime? tr would it be an immense saving to
discharge courts. omccrs. policemen. etc.

Let us put it thus: " There is one burglar
and one murderer at large in the city. what
shall we do about it? The citizens answer.
