The election on Tuesday in twvlve states
rtsulteo in a mixed triumph. The Demo-
crats were victorious in New York, Penn-
sylvaniu. New Jersey and in all the South-
crn states that. held elections, and the Re
publicans carried Connecticut, Massachu-
setts, Minnesota, Wisconsin. Kansas and Ne-
braska. The vote generally was very light.

sult. for the election has very little bearing
upon national affairs.
