Steamship Isaac Bell, in the centennial, from

The announcement in last Saturday's is.
we of the Sentinel that Sheppard’s Jubilee
Singers would be present and sing at the
Temperance Meeting held in Lockwood's
Hall. induced many of our people to “attend
and before the time for commencing. the
services the ball was packed. As they were
disappointed, and also subjected to con-
siderable criticlsm for their curiosity, and we
misrepresented by the christian indies and
gentle-t on who conduct the temperance ser-
vices, an explanation of our 31‘1an scouts
necessary in justice to ourselves as well as
the Jubilee singers.
Last Friday we received a letter from a
gentleman prominently connected with the
temperance reform movement now in opem~
lion in Norwalk containing the following
request:
“Pleusc give. notice in your paper that
Sllvppurd's Jubilee. Singers will sing at the
meeting at Lucltwood‘s Hall. Sunday after-
noon, til 4.} u‘cltck. A wry interesting
time is expected. Admission free."
We will not give the genilemnn‘a name
who sent this request, for fear it may cause
him some undesired notoriety. but we will
slate that he is a man who is in every way
reliable and honorablc, an earnest worker
for the welfare of his unfortunate follow
men, and above doing anything to mislead.
Knowing this we made the announcement

The colored jubilee singers were to have
sung in Lockwood'a Hall. on Sunday after-
noon last. by special invitation, without
charge. A large audience was in attend-
ance and exhibited no little disappointment
when it was announted that they would no:
