During the present week the revival meet.
lugs have been kept up at the Methodist,
Congregational and Biptlst churches with
the most gratifying results.
At the M. E. Church Sunday, 38 converts
were admitted into the church on probation
twenty-six of whom were, preceding this
ceremony, baptized. Rev. Dr. Penrne re-
turned on Saturday and preached on Sun-
day, and the other evenings of the week on
which preaching services war: lit-id. An-
other experience and praise meeting was
held Monday evening, nod for two hours
there was ll continuous testimonial to the
love of the Saviour, interspersed with Gos-
pel hymns.

Our reporter from the Baptist Church has
failed to furnish details of the meeting's
there, but we understand lbntthc pastor has
preached every evening to largo audiences,
and that a large number of persons have
shared in the work of grace which is so gen-
eral among us.
Revival meetings are also being held
nightly in the East live. M. E. church, the
pastor Itsv. \Vm. Brown preaching. Say—-
oral conversions are reported.
Ii now seems as if the movement were
destined to be not merely a revival, but a
great moral and religious revolution in the

when be relieved us by remarking, with a
smile: “ Now go for your piece of calico! "
We pondered over this remark and could‘
make neither head nor tail of it ; what
could men want with pieces of calico? Of
what use could it possibly be to tnem? But
our meditations on this subject had to be for
a. time abandoned, for the church people
were rapidly passing out of the gate and
moving sway from us. We stood for a few
moments still lost in aumzemenl, dreaming,
as it were, when, suddenly and without any
visible cause, one of our number left our,
rank, and joined in the swelling throng.
