New Hotel.
At last we are to have a new hotel and it
is not to boon the site of ,the former Old
Well Hotel. The large building at the
north end of the Opera House. originally
intended for such purpose. is to be fitted up
at a first class hotel and is to be run by Mr.
H. 3. Bartlett. present proprietor of the
Norwalk Hotel. We understand that the
first store on the corner is to be fitted up as a
dining room and the second store will he
used as an once. billiard room. etc.. the
two departments to be properly connected.
The upper doors will be fitted up with pen
lots and the necessary rsruisiteo for comfort
and convenience. This protect is in the
hands of parties abundantly able to put it
throats. and it will be done as expeditious-
ly as possible. -

about one hundred of them assembled at the
magnificent residence of W. B. Swords.
.. arrayed in their best party suits. ar-
ranged with all the care of fond and devot-
ing mamas. The house was thrown open
to them. and Puuselt‘s‘ Germania Band on-
livoned the occasion with music. and lastly
took pal-inert for polkas eta. The major por-
tion found more congenial antusemfit in
such games as ecpenhsgen. stand in the
well. post office. ete..sseming to relish the
kissing with grown up delight. About half
past nine the musicians playeda march. and
the juveniles paired off. and after marching
through the parlors and balls a few times,
took their places in the dining room where
wastemptiugly arranged a bountiful colla-
tion of goodies. Mrs. Swords. with the as-
sistance of several friends. attended to the
wants of the numerous throng. and all were
soon deeply engaged in the delightful oc-
cupation of disposing of the contents of
heaped plated. Pyramid after pyramid of
ice cream sank sway only to be substituted
by others. and not till the last child had been
amply provided did the “old folks“ get a
show at the table. We don't propose to say
how they enjoyed themselves. for it is a
childrens‘ party we are describing. After
supper there was more music. more dancing
and more guinea. and the party was irradu-
ally thinned out by calls from back driven
and par-elite. Master Willie was the hero
of the evening and received the greatest
share of attention from his fair visitors. and
it didn‘t seem to disconcert him in the least.
for he went through it all like a major. The
children all looked ioveley. Their joy
seemed unbounded. and they are all unani-
mous tn the opinion that they had a “splen-
did time.“ We prophecy that birthday
parties will be more numerous hereafter.
Fireman’s Ball.—
The most successful and best attended
ball of the peat season. was that given by
Old Well Hook and Ladder Company No.
i. at Military Hull. last Wednesday evening.
Considerable care was taken in disposing of
the tittketa to confine the attendance to only
respectable parties. and in this they were re~
rnsrkably successful. having filled the hall
to overflowing with a company composed
of our host citiaens who liberally pat-
ronized the affair. anxious to show the
boys that they took a decided interest in the
welfare of the organisation. The committee
of arrangements. Messrs. D. H. Fairbanks.
1?. Eugene Kinney and J. W. Duke labored
faithfully. and were rewarded by the thanks
of all who attended. for the completeness of
the. arrangements. The floor committee

Fred 1‘. Lyon were assidiuua in their duties

furnished the brat music of the season. and
Prof. Tuett in his usual thorough manner.
directed the evolutions of the dancers. so
efibctually that scarcely any confusion was
perceptible. Mr. lees performed two solos
on the surest “Concerto l‘olka“ and “Home
Sweet Home.“ and hie. S. Lal‘nnt. two out
loo on the violin. “Carnival tie Venice” and
“Home Sweet Home.“ which afforded a
pleasing (inversion. and added much to the
pleasures of the occasion. The above gon-
tlemon are both complete masters of the in-
atrurucnts on which they performed. and
were enthusiastically applauded.
Another gratifying feature of the occasion
was the supper. which was complimented
and devoured by about rt hundred couples.
The tables were spread in the vacant store
corner of Marshall and Wall streets. and a
plank walk was laid across Main street to
the store. efl‘ordlug a dry passage from the
ball to the supper room. The tables looked
beautiful. and were loaded (lowh with good
things. The credit of the supper is due to
Mrs. D. W. Fairbanks. Mrs. E. P. Harvey
and Mrs. Capt. Clark who supervised the
whole thing. andvfor the price charged. got
up the best supper we ever partook of.
The company cieared.by the ball. $118.00.
and feel particularly gratified over the re-
sult. as besides showing a friendly spirit on
the part of the public it relieves them of all
indebtednera with a small surplus.

The Norwalk Lock Company has com-
pleted and taken possession of its new ofilce.
Attached as it is to the southwest corner of
the huge factory it looks small. but in re-
ality is quite a building in itself. being 80
by 40 feet. one story high. with slightly
peaktd and many angled tinned roof. The
location of the cane ia peculiarly pleasant.
giving its occupants full and unobstructed
views up and down both railroad tracks.
The interior is most conveniently arranged.
and very beautifl’hliy and substantially fur~
ntahed. The door loading into it opens on
the west. into a wide hallway. with a full pe-
tition on the right and seems petition on
the left. To the right a door opens into the
secretary‘s office. a large and airy room with
a bay window on the south. alibrding a clear
view up to the depot. and across the railroad
bridge to the drew signal. Opening from this
to the east. by two massive black walnut
sliding doors. is the private ofilee or direc-
tors room. which also is well lighted by a
window on tho south. These rooms can be
thrown into one by means of the sliding
