main here a little longer. and enjoy the sun-
shine. of which there has been an abun-
dance lately. To day. being one of the
long sought for warm and pleasant ones.
I have strolled up to the railroad wharf. and
seated myself on a pile of lumber to sun.
and while here have been thinking about
the difference between South Norwslk ttnd
Jacksonville at the present moment. I sup-
pose with you the the streets are covered
with snow. and full of sleigbs ; while here
it is as warm as a June afternoon. with the
thermometer at 80 3 in the shsdc. The
streets are full of carrisges of all styles.
while the shady places along the River’sre
. occupied by those who are warm and tired.
and have stopped to get cool and rested.
The doors and windows at the Hotels are
all open. the stoops are filled with guests
and the place .bu quite n Ssratoga look
about it.
The steamer Starlight has just come in
from up the river. and is quite full of pas-
sengers. I was on the dock the other morn-
ing when the steamer Florence left for Eti-
terprise. and as she strung out into the
stream. with flags flying and the band play-
ing. it made me think of the pleasant calls
up the Hudson River that I have enjoyed so
often on a warm summer‘s day.
One day last week I missed one of the
colored waitresses here. and upon making
some inquiries as to her whereabouts. I was
told that she was going to be married in a
few days. and had gone home to prepare for
the trying ordeal. and that all the folks in
the house were invited to the wedding. So
when the evening come. we asked Hattie
.(the girl that was outgoing to be married).
where the wedding was to be. and at what
time. We were told at Mrs Walker's, just
below here. and at half put seven. Our
party started. and had gone shout a quarter
of a mile without seeing-”thing that look-
ed like the house that we were in search of.

On Sunday night. stld Whitney fell on
the ice in front of his gate. and struck the
back of his head on a fist stone. He thinks
hat if the ground had not been frozen un-
der it he would have broken the alone.
As Mr. D. 8. Gray was standing near one
of his horses one day last week. the horse'
roared. and coming down. put his foot in
Mr. G.‘s pocket. but the cost was not strong
enough to hold so large a pocketful. and the
foot went to the floor. striking his heel. and
doing a little damage thereto, but not re-
riously disabling him.
On Saturday afternoon. as Gersbotn 13.
Bradley and family were on their way to
the village. on turning the corner near the
Saugatnck school house. the sleigh was up-
set and the whole company spilled out. His
mother had her right arm broken near the
wrist. The fracture was attended to by Dr.
Benton. and she is doing well.
