tion that scents to be the one absorbing top-
ic. It seems to be precty well understood
that all previous ones have been failures.
They have been composed of men (with per~

it from pretty high authority that in the
last year‘s council there were three or four
brainy once. but brains go for nothing when
the preponderance of thick skulls is so large.
But with all their big hesdedncss. did they
not succeed quite as well as this reform

Saturday last. three young men neared
spectively Robert. Joseph end Charles
Raymond.stertedout imtn this city one
hunting expedition. and had proceeded to
Ox Ridge. when an accident occured which
resulted in the almost immediate death of
Joseph. Robert and Joseph ere brothernand
Charles. though of the same name. was no
relation to them. Robert and Joseph had
crossed a brook. and Charles in following
them jumped over the brook. In doing so
the hammer of his gun was brought in con
tent with a log and the pieoe'discharged. the
entire contents entering Joseph‘s rixht side.
He was taken to the nearest house. and ex-
pired in about three hours. His funeral
took piece on Tuesday last. The deceased
was about 10 year old.

Mr. lisnford Smith has disposed of the
Carter place. so called. to Col. Wm. Atkin-
son. of New York city. who exchanged his
brown stone front for it. From reports the
Col. will be a valuable acquisition to the

While Mr. Bell]. N. Heath and family
were returning from church on Sunday eves
niug. there horse became unmanagable. and

At the election on Monday things passed
