position. and has concluded in deference to

reached Csrdifl‘ Roads on Sunday night.
Nov. 30. The rescued persons were landed

THE VIRGINIUS SETTLEMENT.
The terms of settlement of the Virginlus
.“ffair having been agreed on between the
Spanish government and our own. the Cabi-
net at Madrid having acceded to the de-
mands of our government. The negotia‘
tions have been carried on at Washington
between Secretary Fish and Admiral Poly.
the Spanish Ambassador. who has manifest-
ed the most honorable desire to secure a
pacific settlement of the dimenlties. The
following are semi-oflcially stated to be
the terms agreed on: _
First—The immediate dolive to the
United Stilton of the ship Virginity“ and all
the surviving passengers and crew.
Strand—A salute to our dog on the 25th
of December next. unless in the meantime
Spain shall satisfy the United States that
the American flex was improperlv borne on
that vessel: and further. that also had no
right to the American flag or American p'l-
pors. In this event the salute is to be spon-
taneously withdrawn. and Sp tin is formally
to disclaim any intentional indignity to
the flag in the acts committed by Spain
against the Virginlua.
Third-if it shell that be shown that the
Virginus bed flu right to carry the Ameri-
can flag and pa rs. the United States will
institute pmdings sgeinst the vessel and
the surviving parties who have violated the
laws of the United States; and Spuin gour-
untees to institute proceedings ngslna. any
of her authorities who ma have violated
either law or treaty stipulatizme.
