lure, the swell and uplift of the imagination.
But We are beginning to mend in this

the fact that after all men does not live by
bread alone, nor even by the practical reli-
gion of common life alone. There are
“words proceeding out of the mouth of
God " in nature around us, speaking to him
who has the car to hear. the heart to frel
them. And will: the awakening sensibility
comes the discovery that some of the most
picturesque and delightful scenery in the
world lies at our own doors among our own
New England hills.‘
What could be finer than these Berkshire

much relieved by the merits of their name-

do not and would not employ others as
bookkeepers than such bearers.
It is surprising. that in a commercial na-
tion like that of the United State-a. commer-
ctal education hits no long been left in pri-
vute bands to be neglected. abused, degraded;
and still more surprising is it to and public
opinion so little prepared for itnpmvctucnt_
that it should require great exertions and an
army of convincing arguments to make it
appear both possible and desirable for good
mercantile institutions to be established in
our country. Some merchants even go so
far as to declare that no institution is capit-
ble to fit young men its they need then»
But if European institution can furnish
ready-made bookkeepers and accountants.

The bodies of Michael Salvage and wife
