Decoration ceremonies were hold up town
last Sunday afternoon. The members of
the Monumental Association met at the Go
relic onlcc at two o‘clock. and proceeded to
the cemetery. where :tho graves were
strewn with flowers. Addresses were

Prof. Lewis it. Packard and Geo. G. Haul-

members of the association and their friends.

ized to the benefit of the order. Mr. Potter
furnished some very fine music on an organ
from the establishment of J. M. Potter.

they will find it awaiting them at the
post once. Every resident should have the
local paper. and as the price is so small. we
think they cannot fail to get their money's
worth. We are happy to say that our circu-
lation is rapidly increasing. and althoth
we try to anticipate the demand for copies.
we very many times fall short. and some of
those who depend on buying aloglenumbers
are disappointed. But the remedy is with
them. and we hope they will apply it.
Last Tuesday morning oflccr Tuttle dis-
covered the draw-bridge signal to be on are.
caused by the explosion of the lamp placed
inside of it. He immediately proceeded.
with the assistance of officer Waterbury. to
extinguish it. but on finding that his efforts
were not likely to meet with success, he at-
tcmptsd to arouse Mr. St. John. who sleeps
in the neighborhood. This was more diffi-
cult than to extinguish the are. Rape of the
club, and abouts that would have aroused a
deaf man. had no effect on "St. John. lie
slumbered on. peacefully. and not till after
the oilicar hsd'aroused all the rest of the
neighborhood. and shouted himself honrsc,
and broken his club, could any impression
he made upon the rcposing youth. But when
he was once aroused he proceeded to busic
noes; seizing a pull be. rushed to the aceneof
danger. and threw the pail at the fire. Rc~
covering his self-possession. he again coined
the pail, ind made for the pump with great
alacrity. his light and fragile form bounding
through the darkness. over railroad track
and gutters. Setting the handle, he _

glue. until his poll was filled. when he set
out again for the scene of the confiscation.
During his absence the fire had been extln.
guished. but St. John. seeing the red signal
suspended from the box. dashed the pail of
water at it. just as he stumbled. and auc-
ceeded in giving the officer and himself a
thorough drenching. Tuttle says he will
never disturb St. John again. if the whole

dealers visited New York city to procure a
supply of meat. with the expectation of re-
turning the same evening. l‘nsvoidable
circumstances compelled him to remain
over night. There was nothing remarkable
about this. had not his wife‘s imagninatlosr
been aroused. She supposed. had he been
alive. he would have telegraphed to her his
intention of remaining over night. After
the last train had arrived and he did not
come. ghe began to think of every imagina-
ble thing that could have happened to him.
Perhaps he had been murdered and robbed.
Through the long night she auilhred all the
horrors of wakeful anxiety. and on the up
preach of morning. without the husband‘s
retura.she immediately set about to discover"
his whereahuts. or what might have hap-
pened to him. She went for her relatives.
and in company with them set. out for New
York. In the meantime. the man having
finished his business in liew York. had
started on the train for home. They passed
each other on the read. without knowing it.
and when the husband returned. the wife
was in New York visiting the police sta~
tiona. and inquiring for her lost husband.
After spending the entire day in a vain
search. she set out on her return in the
evening. weary. and almost heartbroken.
On arriving at her home. and finding that
the lost had returned. he was called to an
account. and after a satisfactory explana-
tion of his whereabouts through the night.
peace was restored. and everything made
lovely. lie says he will never remain
away again without letting his family know
