The residence of Mr. William R. Mchdy,
near Cedar Point, upon which he has been
expending large sums of money. is one of the
most delightful country seats in this section.
The house and grounds of Janus It. Jcseup,
on Sungatnck Bay, is another attractive ru-
ral home.
In full view of this latter place, on the east
side of the river and bay. are some of the
most desirable and available house and villa
lot-.- on the line of the New York and New
Haven Railroad. The water view is snpurb,
the soil is excellent, the neighborhood quiet,
and the facilities for reaching the metropo—
lis unsurpassed. “’c undemtand that it is
held at very reasonable prices.
But. few people appreciate the extent to
which the fruit and vegetable business is
carried in this town. The cultivation of
onions has been an important branch of in-
dustry for years, the supply from this town
having been sufl‘lcicnt, many times. to con-
trol the New York market Their cultiva-
tion is chiefly confined to Green‘s Farms, in
the eastern part of the town. l'cus are an-
other important product of the place. IIDII
are considered so much ante-riot in their
quality, to those from the southern nmrketa,
that they always command good prices and
quick sales. of grapes there will probably
be not less then Rix thousand dollars worth
sent. to umrkcl. and half that value of rasp-
berrios; of which latter fruit there are at
least six acres under cultivation. The":
were probably twenty-five acres of strawber—
ries in the town this season, from which was
shipped to the New York. Boston and
Bridgeport markets. not less than nine thou-
sand dollars worth of fruit. The product of
the curmnt crop sent to the New York mur-
kct ulom-, is estinmted at twenty tom.
