died. He says that experiments have de-
monstrated that several kinds of animals

cat, rat, mouse. Guinea pig, and rabbit; and
that birds, as the domestic fowl, turkey,
goose, pigeon, hawk, etc, together with
fishes, frogs and lobsters fail to get the in-
fection. No absolutely certain Cure has yet
been discovered; and the only alternative,
therefore, is to secure the destruction of the
parasites by curing or cooking the meat.
The trichina is full of vitality; it can en-
dure strong brine and cold smoking, and
even alcohol ; it can survive exposure to 13°
of temperature below the freezing point of
water; but it cannot bear the boiling point,
212°, nor according to some experimenters,
160°. Our safety then lies in thoroughly
cooking pork, ham, sausages, ctc. Roasting,
baking,broiling and boiling. if thoroughly
done, ensures safety.

round trip of the season. The captain in-
tends to sail from this place once in two
weeks, and from Duricn Landing tirc inter—
