new boilers; thoroughly overhauled on the

—Samuel Gregory, of Wilton, who stole
a home from Mr. Scofield last full, drove it
to Poughkeepsie, and there abandoned it
and stole another with which to return after
some more; but was arrested at his home,
by ofliccr Tuttle, before he made his second
haul ; was brought before the Superior
Court, in Bridgeport, on Thursday last, and
pleaded guilty, and was committed toprieon.
The circumstances of the theft were briefly
as follows: Gregory came down one day to
trade an old sorrel horse with Mr. Seofield,
and was shown where some of that gentle
man's stock was kept. in pasture. The fol-
lowing uight he took the horse and started
but very foolishly left his own by the road-
side. Upon this clue Mr. Scofield and 0m-
cer Tuttle laid plans for his arrest, and sue»
ceeded in capturing him upon his return
home. a night or two afterward.
—The Frobsiuu Singing Club held their
first ball in South Norwalk, at Ely‘s Hall on
Monday evening. This Club was organized
three years ago the past winter, and has been
a source of great enjoyment to our German
population of the best class. They moved
their headquarters from Phu‘nix Hall.1\'or.
walk, where they had convened since their
organization, to the house of Mr. Becker. on
the corner of \Vashington and \Vater streets,
in this city, on the first of January last.
The organization contains about forty mem-
bers. and meets weekly in their room, which
occupies the whole second floor of the house.
The entertainment on Monday evening was
wellattended, and all present enjoyed them-
selves in dancing, music, and social inter—
course Wheeler and Wilson's String Band
was in attendance: and the members of the
club sang at intervals,

Smart People,“ and “ The German Father-
land."
