Miss Gustafson. who has an un-
usually lucid voice. sang the Air of
Salem.) from Masscnet‘s “Borodi-
adc." As an encore she. sang hcr
masterpiece the “Norwegian Echo
Sons." as a Scandsnavian could sing
'his lyrical. continental. ice-cold-
warm.

The beauty of this lyrical. ice-
eoldwvnrm number fairly carried tho
listeners up into the. Norwegian
highlands. Miss Gustafson has sung
the‘ Echo Song at practically every
concert in which she has over ap-
peared. It is a difficult selection and
one that calls for facial gestures
which on any other singer would
probably appear very pztiuiui.

Miss Gustafson’s work in the can-
tata. was well dong. in both leading
and solo. her voice proved of 11 very
ag ceable quality and was able to
meet without forcing the require-
ments of last evening's program

The society singers then gave. the
usual brief and light and airy num-
ber found on every concert program.
This was "Protease." followed by Is.
Vaughn Williams "Wtussail Song."

The Choral Art appeared in un-
usually good form last night. due no
doubt to long months of consistent
and ardent training. Norwalk may
well be proud of this society.

The Tenor

Wesley Howard. whose voico pos-
sesses an unusually pleasing warmth
followed with “The Crying of \\'at-
or" and Lconcsvallo's "Mottlnata."
As an encore he sang a'Scotch song
"Lassie O’Mine,“ with cello ohligato.
Mr. Howard proved a sympathetic.
intelligent and expressive interpret-
er of his evening’s work. His voice
was free from the hardness, often
found in concert tenors,

The concert closed with the cheer-
ful and fascinating. "Ring out. Wild
Bells." with familiar words from
Tennyson's "In Memoriam." The
Max Barr ensemble accompanied.

The ensemble included. Mischa
Muscanto. first violin. Louis Sher-
man. second violin. Max Barr. viola.
Isaac Bear. 'cello. and Anselm For-
tler. bass.

Mrs. Chester. Selieck began hei-
sixth season as accompanist for the
society. She played with expressive
vigor and technical skill. Mrs. Sel-
leck received a handsome bouquet of
flowers as did Miss Gustafson.

state produced the information that
a fire proof booth is necessary in
connection with such work. There
is no such booth in the school at the
present time and its erection would
prove very costly.

Christmas Party Dec. 20

A Christmas party to be held Do~
camber :10 was discussed at the
meeting of the (2-3 chapter of the
Girls' and Women's club, last night.
The members will have a. grab-bag
at that time and cacti one has been
asked to bring some little gift.

Mrs. William Wragg. 1;. member
of the chapter. who sails tomorrow
for England. was presented with a
lovely sweater. Slio carried with
her the best. wishes of her many
friends for a safe and pleasant
journey.

Tho chapter voted ".0 send flowers
and fruit to two of the members
who are ill. Mrs. Jacob Wolf of
Academy street, who has been quite
sick for the past week was reported
as considerably improved.

Congratulations were voted in or-
der for Mr. and Mrs. \‘inccnt Ai-
len. 45 Center avenue. Mr. and
Mrs. Allen are the proud parents of
a. son born yesterday. Mrs. Allen
is a. member of the chapter.

The attendance prize of the eve-
ning was claimed by Mrs. Lawrence
B. Mellor.

Refreshments of sandwiches, sa—
lad. tea and cocoa were served.

A very successful bingo party was
held by the members of the Pride of
linens, last night. at Red Men's hall.
Washington street. There was I.
large crowd present and a very en-
Joyable evening was spent.

Refreshments of crullers and cof-
fee were served.
‘ Saturday night. at the home of
Mrs. Elizabeth Steinwald. Elisabeth
street. the members will hold a bin-
go and plnochle party.
