Betts Homestead
Being Made Into
Apartment House
The old Betts homestead. built al-
most a century and a half ago at
13 East. avenue. corner of Bette-
.wood road. is being converted into
a seven family apartment house.
Miss Bally Bette is the present
owner of the place which was built
in 1790 am! which is an exception-
ally well preserved house. having
been extensively remodelled in the
latter part of the 19th century.
There will be six three and four
room apartments and one with twa
rooms. Contractor Charles '1‘. Mc-
Donald who has the contract for
the alterations says that the build-
ing is so arranged and so roomy
With more than 10 rooms now that
it will not be necessary to build any
wings or other additions. The old
front porch will be torn down and
a new entrance porch built.
The bathrooms will be of tile.
There will be oak floors and a steam
heating plant will be installed.
William liollmer was the archi-
tect. The work will cost $18,000.

The. living room. 15 by 21 feel. has
a large. fireplace and looks out upon
the covered veranda. Dining room.
kitchen and breakfast nook are con-
veniently and economically arranged.
Neither is a single foot of space
wasted in the second story. The
bath and each of the three bedrooms
open on the tiny central hall.

The principal product is a. surgical
(in-suing put out under the trade-
name "Dovais XXXX.” In appear-
ance. a veil-like tissik. in multiple

weight. It is marketed in hospital
size rolls. the first shipment of
which was made in July this year.
The company reports an encourag-
ing volume of orders since.
The same basic material is used
in other sanitary products which the
firm also manufacturers. The mar-
keting of the latter was delayed
pending the grant of the trade-
mark petition hut shipments have
lately gotten under way.-
At present the. company employs
25. The mill has been running a
24-hour shift for some weeks and
officials of the company expect that
the output will shortly reach six
tons a day.
