Has But to Follow a Few O the Inviting Re-
cipee ‘Used By Norwalk’s Best Cooks.

 

That Norwaik housewives must
be good cooks is well augured by
the great number of varied and ex-
rcllent 'l‘hanksiriving recipes which
they seem to have tucked away in
the corners all their thinking caps.

The following are just a few of
the tried and true:

30810! BROWN BREAD.

Mrs. Charles E. Moore, as Sec-
ond street.

2 cups yellow meal.
2 cups flour.

2 cups milk.

1 cup molasses.

l teaap. salt.

1 teasp. baking soda.
Mix together and put. in a large
nail and place the poll in a kettle
Boil tor three hours.
This is very good.

WRITE RIBBON MINCE MEAT.

1 pint choppwl boot.

2 pints chopped apples

Itind 0! 1 lemon.

1-: lb. raisins.

1-! lb. currents.

1 cup older.

1 1-: cups sugar.

1 teaspoon cinnamon.

1-! teaspoon cloves.

1-2 nutmeg.

Little salt.

Add enough boiling water to
metre it juicy and cook gcntly for
1-2 hour.

A DELICIOUS SALAD.

An unusual apple salad is made
by grinding up half a cup of ripe

 

I 1-8 cups flour.

1 teasp. ground cloves.

2 tease. ground cinnamon.

1 teasp. ground nutmeg.

1d teasp. salt.

1 tossp. baking soda.

Boil 3 hours in a mould.
Sauce.

desk 1 leaf of Swedish Rye bread
until soft. saueese out the water
and add 1 entail onion. Bait to
taste (about; tassp.) Dash of per-
per. Little-sage. as much as you
like. a tow drops of kitchen bou~
quot. 1 cup of celery stalks and
loaves. out line. Mix carefully and
have it rather moist but not. soggy.

This filling is very good for veal
or pork with a green Deliver. ehov-
ped tine. added to it.

1 can golden pumpkin.

i quart milk.

4 eggs.

2 cups sugar.

3 tensp. cinnamon (scant).

l 114 turn. ginger (scant).

This makes enough for two pies.
Three tablsp. of milk poured over
the pie illling after it is in the crust
and just before it is placed in the
oven. give the pumpkin a delicious
brown. which is often so hard to

 

main feature on the Thanksgiving
warrant. but there are other num-
bers to be considered:

The squash should be cooked and
made into croqueites the days before i
Thanksgiving.

The pumpkin should be baked and
allied ready to be combined with
milk and eggs on Tuesday.

The brown broad should be baked
on Tuesday or Wednesday. it can
be reheated if wanted warm for the
teast.

Let the salad be deliciously crisp
lcttuco or endive with a simple
French dressing.

Use your favorite cookie recipe
but snake the cookies very thin and
in small shapes.

When you plan your table decora-
tion choose something that will not
give the table a crowded appearance.
and keep the centerpiece low. A
wide. low bowl of fruit and nuts is
colorful and can be used as a last
course tor the dinner.

A delicious nut stufilng may also
be made by adding to the regular
bread stuffing (using 1 quart of
broad instead or ball crackers) 1 cup
[iner chopped nuts. pecans. peanuts.
walnuts or chestnuts. boiled and
skinned.
