Business has learned the BdHil’l-

operative effort. insurance agencivs

agencies of every sort utilize spcci ll
periods as a time in which a fixed
goal is to be reached. These
agencies are censtantly ulcrt but

thusiusm produces an atmosphere

the individuals participating find
such an effort a source of individual

This may all be said in favor of
a. Church Attendance Sunday. The
church is learning from business me-
thods. Churches are finding days of
special effort increasingly valuable,
both in church attendance and
spiritual uplift. The observance of
special days is valuable in the

when the pressure of life is crushing.

tional pleasures and devote our-
selves to the contemplation of the

German Actors Like
To Jazz Up Audiences
Actors in the German capital are
so mad about jess that they insist
upon inflicting their conception of it
on the public. At a recent benefit
performance for the Actors' Pension
fund. in the auditorium of the
lteichstag the actors' and operatic
stars' band made a big hit.
The chief tenor of the Metropole
theater manipulated the tambourine
and contracts. A leading comedian
beat the drums and one of Max
Reinhardt's stage sheila played the
flute.
liberty. enslaved personality. wreck-
ed the prosperity upon which must
rest the physical and to some extent
the moral welfare of the people; a
trade which grafted and paid graft.
corrupted government. betrayed the
country in time of war and fattened
on the misery of women and chil-
dren.
Undoubtedly the Methodists will
continue to make every legitimate
effort to protect the law which de-
strayed this evil system. The charge
that the church has gone into poll-
tice because it makes such effort is
worse than misleading. , Every other
evangelical church is making a sim-
ilar effort. and properly so. and the
Roman Catholic church maintains
at Washington a national hadquar-
ters from which it expremee opinion
on public affairs and makes its con-
tribution to the social and moral
welfare of the nation.
