with a Jerk.
"Elie," cried Judith.

Erie smiled. end drew out his pipe.
“Why don't you come in?" He spoke
directly to Judith, ignoring the pro-
fessor.
Dr. Dora‘sirnightened his shoul-
ders. "I'll not stop. was Martin
It's growing late." He glanced sig

Dr. Dora cleared his throat. “Good
night,” he said.
Eric stood back to let Judith pass
through the door. In the ball they

they were in the living room alone.

anxious frown between her eyes
"What has happened. Eric?"
He was smoking quietly. "Noth

worse than it is. I simply went home
late. and in the dark bumped into an

Eve rose. drawing Judith also to

Eric." . he watched Judith sharply.
"Well?" said Judith.

Eve leaned back and waited for

her to go on.
With a smile, Eve began again.

A glint in Judith's eyes brought
