A TRIBUTE TO MRS. ANDREWS
In the retirement of Mrs. Benjamin F. Andrews as president
the Norwelk Republican Women’ s association has lost the finest
and most conscientious leader it ever boosted.
Like the master weaver. she has completed her little pattern;
sile hes made her mark. a mark that will go down in the annals
of the Republican Women‘s association. a mark of which any
woman might be well proud.
Before her lies the pattern which has been her work, her
creation. end she surveys it with deep interest. The farther
end wherein the work was hegun‘. is all confusion. a jumble. The
threads are crossed and criwrossed many times; there are numer-
ous loose ends; the colors are harsh and unlovely.
Half w'ay through. one begins to discern the real pattern.
can trace the work of the master hand. The loose ends are be-
ing drawntogether, taut. ready for service. each m its place, each
performing itr‘ own particular duty.
There are rough spots to be sure. bllt as the work progresses,
the hillocks become smaller and smoother until, towards the end,
they are hardly discernible.
Many times the wearer pauses. surveys her work with mixed
feelings of enthusiasm, disgust and hope. She knows the thrill
of a bright splash of color. the glowing color of victory; she
knows the muddy. drab shades of disgust and depression and the
sharp blackness of disappointment.
But she persevercs. on and on to the end, taking the good
with the bad, and ever striving towards a harmonious pattern,
a strong thread. i
And so the letter end of the finished piece presents a pleas-
ing appearance. The design is excellent. the material serviceable.
the colors well blended
Now she steps aSidc in allow another to make her mark to
weave her own pattern to boost the organization on its way.
But to Mrs Andie“ goes the credit of putting the Nor-'
walk Republican Women s Association firmly on its feet and of
keeping those straying foot niong illf‘ right path during her two
years in the presidency.
Her work in the association is justly a mirror of her own
characteristics of brnuduliluiednoss, generosity.
