the main entrance of the institution
Monday and, trampled through to
the street outside.
Eleven were back in the peniten-
tiary by night. while posses search-
ed the countryside for the other two.
The break for liberty was made as
vulture were being let in. Women
screamed as tho pandemonium of
shots and shouts broke out and the
rushing prisoners pushed them aside.
The men were armed with crude
knives. revolvers. confiscated from
the guards. heavy iron hooks used
to hold bunks against the wall and
a stout table leg.
Visitors Scramble to Safety
All cells were quickly locked up
.and the visitors scrambled to places
of safety. None we a injured.

Councilmen Towers F. Hamilton
and passed by the common council
last evening. is signed by Mayor
Thomas Robins. Norwsik will have
a recreation commission in charue
of the playgrounds and other city
recreation centers.
The ordinance as passed
for the establishment o a recrea-
tion commission consiaii g of two
members of the council and three
civilians. They will be appointed
by the mayor and in such manner
that their terms will' exidro at dif-
ferent times.
They will have full charge of the
playground! and have the right to
retain directors to conduct the
grounds. They will also‘ have the
right to prepare and present their
own budget to the board of estimate
and taxation. Reports will have to
be made to the council.
