On the strength of what Norwalk has already done in the way of public service for its people, and .n the name of what it will un doubtedly do 1n the future, I could not help but have the utmost belief‘ 111 this city No city can prosper while it neglects those who cannot help themselves. Every city however large. however small, containsa 1 certain number of people who are “riding against a high wind," so to Speak, and who must be "carried along " Norwalk adequately takes care of those, who cannot afford medical treatment, in its Dispensary. Twenty years ago this city was without a visiting nurse, a public clinic or a dispensary. The , present Norwalk diSpens'ary was founded in 1907. From a mere handful of patients, the number of cases treated has grown and grown until this year, it is expected, the number w1ll reach a1 ound 1 300. Tubercular treatment, general 111 'cal attention. free pre- school examination for the children, vi ‘ng nurse service and a new 'dental clinic, all these our progressive city otters to its resi- dents through the dispensary. Noiwalk does not shirk its duty; it realizes that it must sup- port its public institutions unless it is to present a warped, blight- ed face to the outside world. As for such institutions, has not Norwalk a handsome hospi- tal, a fine nurses home, an adequate dispensary, a growing day ‘ nursery and a dental clinic?
