At one swoop the local Western
Union Telegraph company omco has
doubled its capacity by the installa-
tion of a duplex transmitter that
permits the operators to send mes-
sages in both directio ove the
same wire at the same t met an-
ager Fred B. Van Scoy exhibited
the duplex this morning. with the
admission that explaining how tne
words untangle themselves in pass-
ing would be dimcuit indeed.
All that meets the eye in looking
at the new' apparatus is two small
boxes rigged on the desk next to the
telegraph instruments. both decorat-
ed with a myriad of little bras-
contacts and a full complement of
switches. But back of this. in the
cellar. to be exact. are located 100.
additional wet cell batteries. install-
ed as part of the equipment. The
station formerly carried-ion business
with only so cells. bringing the total
now to four times previous strepgth.
Where the onlco could. up to now,
transmit but 46 messages an hour at
capacity. it is new capable of burn-
ing up the wires with 90 or 100m
the same time.
This is another indicator of South
Norwalk's growth.

pany. This is the result of a hernia
which it is alleged was received
while the plaintiff was in the em-
ploy of the defendants'. Decision
was reserved. '
In the case of Andrew Sandy
against the Policy Refrigerating
company in which a large award
was made several weeks ago the
average salary was set at $36 per
week.
