and robbing the 25 patrons; shoot-
ing the head waiter and an artist
patron. two alleged gunmen were
:aptured after a chase. They gave
their names as Ernest Johnson and
Timothy Donovan of this city.

subdued them with their clubs.

Later Daniel Keeshen.
as a. bank teller. was arrested charg-
ed with acting in concert with the

The new proposed revision of the
city charter providing for the sale
of district utilities to the City of
Norwaik will probably bring out a
record vote November 2. East Nor-
waik's list of registered voters has
increased enormously in the last few
years and if all those who register-
ed take the trouble to vote this
year there will be about 1.800 bal-
lots. east. The number of men vot-
ers to about 1.000 and the women
about 700. This year's voters to be
made will add nearly another 100
to the total.

Another East avenue improvement
to add tothe list including the new
gutter and the wider curve at Van
Zen: street will be started early
next week by Contpctor If. ,7. Law-
is of East Norwaik, who has signed
a contract to pave the sidewalk from
Schavrten's store to the bridge. The

Contractor Lewis is at present
working on the widening of South
Main street. a project that will take
another three or four weeks.

 

Fishermen in this section contin-
ue to report exceedingly large catch-
es off the islands along the shore.
The season has been a particular de-
light as concerns mackerel. .which
have not appeared in large numbers
here for six years but have now as-
rived in droves. Peter Vaast made
a catch of 185 of these Tuesday.
Henry Seiser of Liberty square land-
ed 53 smelt the same afternoon.

team will have its first test of "Iii
season when it meets the second
team of the King's school in stam-
ford this afternoon at d c'clouk.
Coach Young has the local eleven
in good shape and everything points
to an interesting game.

Lineup for the game this after-
noon hss not as yet been announced.
but the team will be composed of
the following: Frank Armstrong.
Tex Morrison. ”Chuck" Crane. Ilow-
ard Tyler. Bob Wright. Russell Arm-

lectmen, has not met with any re-
sults. and the town is still without
a method of disposing of its refuse.
The lagoon at Pear Tree Point.
hitherto utliiud for this purpose.
has been filled in and is no longer
of use, and the dumping ground on
Tokeneke road has been banned by
the residents of Tokeneke who ob-
jected strenuously to the practice of
dumping refuse in that place.
Meanwhile nothing is being done.
and the situation becomes increas-
ingly worse.
