TWO ESCAPE
FROM PRISON,
ONE CAUGHT

HARTFORD, August s.—Charlea
Danserau, 11 ll escaped from the
slate prison a Wclhcrsiicld Satur-
tiuy morning. was captured by pri-
son guards and state police at 9:15
o'clock, standard time. last night.

All available prison guards, aug-
mented by a detail of slate police.
at 11 o'clock, were posted around or
were beating a 40-11ch cornfield off
Marsh strove, \Vriliorsfleld. where
Walter Knowles, llanserau's com-
panion in the csci‘lpc. has been hid-
ing. according to lilunserau, since the
pair fled from the prison farm be-
tween 7:30 and 8 o'clock Saturday
morning.

Danserau's attempt to satisfy his
hunger with ripe corn. which he in-
tended to eat raw. led to his capture.

Hartford barracks and Prison Band-
master A. E. K. Mnlchln. were con-
cealed behind an automobile watch-
ing a stretch of the cornfield wherp
it borders a rough “agon road. 0.

of the officers moved cautiously
through the field. Dunserau in the
lead. The officers noticed the move-
ment of the corn caused by the pass-
age of the bodies of the men and
just as Dansorau reached up to sec-
ure a tempting car of com, the state
policeman and the bandmaster. both
“0-footcrs" seized the fugitive.

“Don't shoot," Dnnserau cried as
they grabbed him. He had no oppor-
tunity to resist. but Knowles. who
was a few feet away managed to es-
cape ag‘aln into the corn.

from a fractured skull sustained-
when he fell from the running board
of an automobile driven by Everet
Wootton. of Bethel. near the corner
of Seaview and Stratford avenues.
