The outstanding political event of
the week was the unexpected decla-
ration from Senator Cummins of
Iowa that he did not think President
Coolidge would be a candidate for
rcnomination. In file senator's own
words. the Iowan thought the Presi-
dent would "have enough of it “by
1928."
Had this remark come from a.
Progressive or some “irregular"
member of the G. 0. P. the an-
nouncement: would have caused no
concern but. coming from a conserv-
ative like Cummins, it aroused quite
a storm.
Within 24 hours the wires were
filled with remarks and denials. One
of these came directly from Homer
P. Snyder. an cit-representative from
New York. who was visiting Presi-
dent Coolidge at his camp in the
Adirondacks.
“The people cannot be aafiasily
swept off their feet as politicians
think." Mr. Snyder said. “President
Coolidge has not lost any of his hold
on them. They remember that he
has made a good administrator. de-
voted himsclt entirely to their inter-
ests in forcing down government ex-
penses and in reducing taxes. The
apparent hostile manifestations
against Republican candidates to
represent opposition to the Presi-
dent. The midwest, suifcring from
low farm prices. demanded what
was. notwise or good business.

Sail Are Complete
Complete arrangements for the
moonlight sail to be held on Wed»
uesday. July 28. were made at a
meeting of the Norwalk chapter of
Dchfolay in the Washington Street
Masonic temple. Tickets were dis-
tributed to the members inst eve-
ning.
Instead of the regular meeting
next Thursday there will be a min-
strel show put on by tho entertain-
ment committee.
After the business session last
evening refreshments of ice cream
and cake were served.
There will be an obligation class
formed shortly. preparing for tall
degrees.
